EML 8B or 10B?

Post by Docere »

Will EML produce a replacement tube for the AV8B? These tubes look like nice candidates for a 2-stage, transformer-coupled 8B drives 8B SE amp.

Kind regards.

The 12B is better than I was hoping for.

If the Rp comes in where I think it will (<2K), it looks very possible to drive an output stage via step-up transformer - the 20B was a bit marginal for transformer coupling due to the combined Rp and current requirements (just a bit too much). The 12B could be really nice in both stages of a two-stage low-power amp with no need for step-up (probably).

Having the recommended operating conditions in the datasheet would be helpful - saves me having to guesstimate the Rp, distortion etc. ;) With a max dissipation of 20W, I'd probably be looking to run around 15W if an output (less as input/driver).

The 12B looks like a sound addition to the EML line. I hope it is a success... I will certainly be purchasing some. I will start a tentative design today (should be very simple!): when will the datasheet be completed and the tubes available?

Cheers.
